India has millions of music listeners — and today any singer, from a big city or a small village, can put songs on the same apps as famous artists. The bridge between you and those apps is a music distributor.
What does a music distributor do?
- Delivers your songs to Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Wynk, Gaana, Instagram & Facebook and 150+ stores.
- Gives each song the codes stores need (ISRC for every song, UPC for every release).
- Sets up caller tunes on Jio and other networks.
- Protects your songs on YouTube with Content ID.
- Collects earnings from every store and pays them to you.
ISRC and UPC — what are they?
An ISRC is a unique code for one recording — like an Aadhaar number for your song. A UPC is the barcode for a release (a single, an EP or an album). Stores use these codes to count your streams and pay you. RDV Entertainment gives you an ISRC for free, or you can use your own ISRC and UPC.
Caller tunes
Your song can also become a caller tune. When you create a release, you choose the 30-second part and its name, and it goes to the telecom networks along with the stores.
How royalties work
Stores pay for streams and downloads. Their reports reach the distributor usually every month, a few months after the streaming. Your share is added to your dashboard and you withdraw it to your verified bank account once you cross the payout limit.
Artist or label?
An artist account is for singers, composers and bands releasing their own music. A label account is for music companies releasing songs for many artists under their own label name, with a team that can share the work.
How to choose a plan
- Just starting? Begin on the Free plan and release your first song at no cost.
- Releasing only now and then? A per-release plan means you pay only when you release, and you keep a bigger share of your earnings than on the Free plan.
- Releasing often or running a label? A yearly plan covers all your releases for the year and adds more features.
